Accident Involving Cyrus Mistry: Darius Pandole Claims His Wife, Who Was Driving, Was Unable To Enter The Second Lane Of Traffic

When the road narrowed near the Surya river bridge in Maharashtra’s Palghar, Darius Pandole, who survived the car accident that killed industrialist Cyrus Mistry, told the police that his wife Dr. Anahita was driving the Mercedes-Benz but was unable to move the car into the second lane from the third one.

The employees of the Kasa police station in Palghar, where the accident occurred on September 4, took Darius Pandole’s (60) testimony on November 8.

After the automobile struck the bridge railing, Jahangir Pandole and former Tata Sons chairman Mistry (54) died. Both the 55-year-old gynecologist Dr. Anahita who was driving and her husband Darius were seriously hurt.

Last October 31, Darius Pandole, who had been hospitalized at a hospital in Mumbai, was released. He got “maxo facial” surgery as well as forearm surgery. Due to the severity of his wounds, he was also fighting infection. He recounted details of the mishap during a one-and-a-half-hour statement that was recorded at his home in south Mumbai.

He claimed that he had no immediate recollection of the September 4 incident that resulted in the deaths of Cyrus Mistry and his brother Jahangir Pandole.

He added that the lane became narrow near the Surya river bridge and that when she tried to move the car from the third to the second lane, she discovered that there was a truck on the right side (in the second lane), making it impossible for her to merge into that lane.

Balasaheb Patil, the superintendent of police in Palghar, said that they had recorded Darius Pandole’s statement.
