According To Russia, Four Regions Of Ukraine Where Referendums Were Held Would Be Annexed Formally
According to Russia, the four Ukrainian areas that held referendums on joining the country will become part of it on September 23. Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, will attend a ceremony at the Kremlin where they will be formally merged into Russia, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
At a ceremony on September 23 in the Kremlin’s St. George’s Hall, the leaders of the four areas where the five-day referendum concluded on September 27 will sign treaties to join Russia, according to a Kremlin spokesman.
Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia—four regions in the south and two in the east of Ukraine—held referendums on whether they wanted to join Russia. These politicians were supported by Russia. The referendums were criticized as being fake and illegal by the West and Ukraine.
The decision to organize referendums comes as Ukraine’s counteroffensive has reclaimed land that Moscow had taken since its invasion in February, putting Moscow on the defensive. Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, also declared that some of the nation’s 2 million-strong military reserves will be mobilized.
