After A Two-Year Covid Hiatus, Salt Lake’s Most Well-Known Event, The Bidhannagar Mela, Is Back

The Bidhannagar Mela (Utsav) will begin on December 6 at the Central Park fairgrounds after a two-year hiatus. Up until January 4, it will continue.

The fair, which is the most well-liked event on Salt Lake City’s cultural calendar, was last hosted in 2019–20.

The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, which is hosting the event, has announced that there would be 260 booths, 18 pavilions, 36 kiosks, 71 tables, and 88 dalas. There will be two kid-friendly amusement zones with rides. Additionally, there will be a food park with stands that are purposefully placed apart from the rest of the fair to avoid creating a fire hazard.

Local boutiques and Kashmiri vendors have also expressed a great deal of interest. Around ten foreign countries’ traders have reserved stalls.

Minister Firhad Hakim will conduct the ceremony of the inauguration. To send a chhou dance company and tribal dancers to the inauguration, discussions with the information and cultural affairs department are now underway. The celebrity performers, whose schedules have not yet been set, include Babul Supriyo, Swagatalaksmi Dasgupta, Sriradha Bandyopadhyay, and Sourendro-Soumyajit. There will be cultural acts every day.
