Agents From Canada Defrauding Indians Of Jobs And College Admissions

In spite of assurances that Canada would provide excellent educational opportunities, employment prospects, and permanent residences, many Indian applicants have complained that they were misled by fraudsters into enrolling in the wrong colleges.

Education recruitment to Canada is a cutthroat market in India. Apparently, thousands of independent agents compete to earn roughly $2,000 for each student for college recruitment. According to estimates, Ontario’s public institutions paid recruiters commissions totaling more than $114 million in 2020–21.

Dilpreet Kaur, who disclosed her horror to CBC news, claimed that a college recruiter who receives commissions referred her to Alpha Institution, a college she had never heard of. Selling two trucks and leasing some of the family lands helped her parents raise the $28,000 needed for the course. But she discovered that it was very different from what the recruiter had said.

According to the Toronto fire department, Alpha, a private career college affiliated with the public St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ont., now has 4,900 students enrolled despite the fact that its two-story structure only has room for 420.

Additionally, there are several schools in the area that run similarly.

Unfounded claims regarding visas

The research asserts that numerous agents make false statements regarding visas, claiming that obtaining permanent residence is very simple once you arrive in Canada. However, a Statistics Canada study conducted last year indicated that just 30% of persons who enter Canada on a student visa eventually become citizens.

Canada employs international students as inexpensive labor

Foreign students, according to Bloomberg, claim that the Canadian government uses them as a cheap source of labor and then throws them out when they are no longer required.

About 50,000 foreign students were given permission by the government to stay for 18 months after graduating in order to look for work last year.

The administration marketed the permit extension as a tool to assist more graduates in meeting urgent demands in important industries while also enabling them to amass the necessary work experience for permanent immigration. However, some of these applicants for permanent residents were still without legal authorization to work or live in the nation a year and a half later.
