AI Will Create More Jobs Than It Replaces, Says PM Modi at Delhi Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed growing concerns over artificial intelligence replacing human jobs, asserting that technological change has historically created new employment opportunities and that AI will be no different. Speaking at the AI Impact Summit 2026 in the national capital, the prime minister emphasized that preparedness and skill development are key to ensuring that India benefits from the AI revolution.

Acknowledging that rapid advancements in AI have triggered anxiety among workers across sectors, Modi said such fears are natural whenever transformative technologies emerge. However, he argued that history demonstrates how innovation reshapes industries rather than eliminating livelihoods altogether. According to him, while certain tasks may become automated, new roles, industries and economic possibilities will simultaneously emerge.

The prime minister stressed that India is proactively investing in large-scale skilling and reskilling initiatives to equip its workforce for the evolving digital economy. He highlighted the need to prepare young professionals not just to use AI tools, but to design, develop and lead in the field of artificial intelligence. Calling AI a “force multiplier,” Modi said the technology can significantly enhance productivity and expand access to services across healthcare, education, agriculture and governance.

He pointed out that professionals such as doctors, teachers and legal experts can leverage AI to reach more people efficiently and deliver better outcomes. Rather than viewing AI as a threat, he urged citizens to see it as an enabler that augments human capability. The prime minister added that India aims to become one of the world’s leading nations in both AI innovation and deployment, positioning itself at the forefront of the global technology landscape.

The AI Impact Summit, being held in New Delhi, has brought together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and global experts to discuss the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence. Discussions have focused on balancing technological advancement with ethical safeguards, data protection and inclusive growth. Modi reiterated that AI development must prioritize human welfare and ensure that technological gains are widely shared.
