Amritpal Singh, an NSA accused and Khalistani preacher who won the Lok Sabha election as an Independent candidate from Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib constituency, is preparing to launch his political organization on January 14.
Amritpal is now detained at the Dibrugarh prison in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA). A ‘Panth Bachao, Punjab Bachao’ demonstration has been planned, with the formal declaration to be made during the ‘Maghi Da Mela’ in Punjab’s Sri Mukstar Sahib.Amritpal was arrested under the NSA on April 23, 2023, following a month-long manhunt by the Punjab Police Department. Last year, on July 5, he was flown from Dibrugarh to Delhi for his oath as a Lok Sabha MP.
Following his appointment as the head of the Punjabi political organization ‘Waris Punjab De’ in 2022, he conducted pro-Khalistani rallies and led the Ajnala police station attack, in which a large number of armed persons rushed the station and assaulted the policemen.
Amritpal’s father, Tasrem Singh, indicated interest in forming a new political party in the state in September of last year. Amritpal’s parents made prayers at Amritsar’s Golden Temple, claiming that a new political party was required to rebuild Punjab, which was going through a difficult period.
“The party will prioritise the welfare of all and uphold the principle of’manas ki jaat sabhay eke pechanbo’ (equality of mankind),” Tasrem Singh remarked on the fourth foundation day.
