Days after he allegedly attacked his wife, accusing her of having an extramarital affair, and paraded her on the road with a male friend of hers, a commerce lecturer and his colleague were detained on Thursday in the Puri region of Odisha.

According to police, the 45-year-old lecturer and his colleague were taken into custody after the man’s 37-year-old wife filed a complaint. They were accused of assault, outraging a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, and public humiliation, according to several portions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The woman, a teacher, has been living apart from her spouse for a number of years because of a marital conflict, the police say. According to them, she and her 14-year-old son reside in a leased home. Her spouse and his associate stormed into the rental home on Tuesday at approximately 8:00 p.m.

“The lecturer got furious after he found her wife with a male friend, who is also a teacher. He and his friend assaulted the woman and her companion. The assailants also recorded videos of the woman and her male friend as they were being dragged out of the house, assaulted, garlanded with slippers and made to walk through the streets,” said a police officer.

According to social media video recordings that have gone viral, the lecturer and his associate forced her male friend to strip down as well and forced the two of them to go towards the police station. In addition there was a mob all around them. The woman was spotted sobbing as her husband pushed her along the street.

“We have seized two mobile phone, a motorcycle and a hammer, among other articles. Further investigation into the matter is underway. If we find that any others are involved, we will take action accordingly,” said the police officer.
