Anurag Kashyap, the renowned director celebrated for his gritty crime dramas such as “Black Friday” and “Gangs of Wasseypur,” recently shared a candid account of his experiences, shedding light on both the rewarding and frustrating aspects of his journey in Indian cinema. Despite encountering setbacks, Kashyap remains a prominent figure, venturing into acting with “Maharaja” and currently engaged in the upcoming series “Bad Cop.”

In a revealing interview with Fever FM, Kashyap expressed admiration for actors who decline offers for valid reasons, respecting their decision-making process. However, he voiced frustration with individuals who kept him waiting for years, only to abruptly cut off communication. He lamented, “I like the quality in some people who say no because of whatever reason, I respect them a lot. But people who make you go around for two-three years and then say no, or just start ghosting you, that I have a problem with. It still happens.”

Earlier this year, Kashyap sparked attention on social media when he announced his decision to charge a consultancy fee, expressing his weariness of mentoring individuals lacking talent. In an interview with Humans of Cinema, he clarified that his frustration was not directed towards aspiring filmmakers but towards individuals he deemed as “faaltu log” (useless people) wasting his time.

Reflecting on the past two years, Kashyap revealed a personal struggle with health issues, dependency on medication, and battles with depression. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing his well-being amidst professional demands, stating, “What people are not aware and they don’t ask, is what zone are you in. I have gone through two and a half years of extreme sickness, dependency on medicines, I have gone through my whole phase of depression.”

Kashyap candidly discussed instances of unwelcome intrusions into his personal space, recounting how strangers would show up unannounced at his doorstep, seeking to pitch their films or scripts without prior arrangement. He recounted one such incident where a stranger rang his doorbell, insisting, “I want to show you my film.”

Despite these challenges, Anurag Kashyap’s influence and creative vision continue to resonate within the Indian film industry. His upcoming projects, including the eagerly anticipated series “Bad Cop,” highlight his enduring dedication to pushing cinematic boundaries and exploring new narrative frontiers.

As Kashyap navigates the complexities of filmmaking and balances personal health with professional commitments, his story serves as a reminder of the resilience required in the pursuit of artistic excellence. Fans and peers alike await his future endeavors with anticipation, eager to witness the next chapter in his transformative impact on Indian cinema.
