In a blistering attack on the Congress on Tuesday, BJP leader Anurag Thakur claimed that the people of Himachal Pradesh were paying a price for electing the party to power and that the party’s past was replete with broken promises. During the BJP’s campaign for the November 20 assembly elections, Thakur, who is now in Maharashtra, asked voters to support the Mahayuti in order to rescue the state. Speaking to reporters, the BJP leader emphasized Mahayuti’s development record and claimed that it is the only option for people looking for sincere leadership and long-term advancement.
He said the Congress came to power in Himachal Pradesh with a “laundry list of guarantees” about uplifting citizens, and months into its rule, people are left wondering about these promises.
There was not a single party that the Congress never cheated, he said.
“The party’s history is littered with broken promises and false assurances, and this time, Himachal Pradesh is paying the price,” the former Union minister said.
He claimed that the Congress won power subsidies, women’s financial assistance, reasonably priced milk, and job creation when they took office in Himachal Pradesh. However, Himachal citizens were asking where these promises had disappeared to when the Congress took power for several months. Thakur claimed that although the Congress had promised 300 units of free electricity in Himachal Pradesh, the state’s government had instead placed a tax on electricity use and halted the BJP’s plan to give away 125 units of power.
According to the Congress platform, 23 lakh women in the state would benefit from a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 for women. However, Thakur asserted that not a single rupee had appeared on the ground.
“This is nothing but a cruel joke on women who placed their trust in them,” he said.
Additionally, he claimed that the grand old party’s promise to generate five lakh employment in the northern state has not been fulfilled and is merely a paper promise. He claimed that in addition to raising the VAT on gasoline and diesel and introducing new milk prices, the Congress administration had not fulfilled its ten “guarantees,” which included paying Rs 2 per kilogram of cow dung under the heavily advertised cow dung procurement scheme.
“They haven’t even managed to procure cow dung from two people. The whole scheme is laughable,” Thakur said.
