The upgrade for Apple’s Siri may be postponed, according to reports, because of software glitches and engineering problems. The AI-driven Siri was initially unveiled in June 2024, introducing various new features and improved conversational abilities, with a launch anticipated in April. According to the report, the tech giant based in Cupertino is now thinking about postponing the feature launch to May or beyond. Importantly, the Siri update was revealed as a component of the company’s Apple Intelligence series, which has experienced a gradual rollout since October 2024.

As per a report, Apple’s anticipated AI enhancement for the Siri virtual assistant is facing software glitches and engineering challenges. Quoting anonymous sources knowledgeable about the situation, the report suggested that the AI-boosted Siri might be postponed from its intended schedule.

Siri’s AI capabilities were initially revealed in June 2024, when the company announced three significant enhancements for its virtual assistant. Initially, the assistant could customize its replies by integrating usage data. Moreover, Siri could manage specific applications to accomplish intricate tasks that require app interaction. Third, it would also have the capability to view the user’s device and respond to inquiries accordingly. Additionally, it was reported that Siri could comprehend and engage in natural language dialogues.

These capabilities would greatly enhance the existing version of Siri, which is seen as lagging behind its competitors. Nonetheless, the indicated delay suggests that the company may require more time before the enhanced virtual assistant is made available to users. While the full extent of the issues with Siri is not known, Gurman claimed that employees testing the new Siri have found that the AI features do not work consistently. Additionally, several bugs have also added to the problems for the company. While Apple is said to be working overtime to ensure that the feature releases on time, the iOS 18.4 developer beta is scheduled to be rolled out next week, which might be a tight timeline to meet.
