Martyrdom Anniversary of Khudiram Bose Observed with Solemnity in Mecheda and Purba Medinipur Districts

Mecheda: The 117th martyrdom anniversary of Khudiram Bose, the celebrated Indian revolutionary, was observed with due respect across Mecheda and the Purba Medinipur districts. The Mecheda Sanskritik Sangha organized a series of events to honor the legacy of the young freedom fighter.

The day began with a garland-laying ceremony at Khudiram Bose marble statue located at the gateway to Purba Medinipur district. Following this, a drawing competition was held for students, and a blood donation camp took place at the Mecheda Central Bus Stand. A total of 35 people donated blood, including five women and one person with a disability.

Later in the day, the commemoration continued with yoga and karate demonstrations, a parade featuring a band, and a procession carrying a portrait of Khudiram Bose. The events concluded with a discussion meeting presided over by Ganen Roy, President of the Mecheda Sanskritik Sangha.

Dr. Tarun Naskar, a respected member of the Sara Bangla Khudiram Centenary Committee and former MLA, spoke at length about Khudiram Bose’s life and sacrifices. He highlighted Khudiram’s active role in the anti-partition movement of 1905 and his humanitarian efforts during flood relief drives. Dr. Naskar urged the youth to draw inspiration from the martyr’s ideals and dedicate themselves to the nation’s service in present challenging times.

During his speech, Dr. Naskar also addressed recent controversies involving certain political representatives who questioned the patriotism of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He emphasized that Netaji commitment to India began in his childhood, citing his participation in ‘Arandhan Diwas’ (fasting day) at his hostel.

Prominent personalities including Dr. Biswanath Poria, Purnendu Bikash Patra, Lakshmikant Pramanik, and Biplob Mandal were present at the meeting, which was efficiently conducted by the Association Joint Secretary, Dr. Kalishankar Patra. Alongside the discussions, members of the Association performed patriotic songs and staged plays portraying the life of revolutionary Rash Behari Bose.

In addition to Mecheda, similar programs commemorating Khudiram Bose were organized throughout East and West Medinipur districts in places such as Kolaghat, Bhogpur, Panskura, Tamluk, Mahishadal, and Haldia.

These observances served as a reminder of Khudiram Bose’s enduring legacy and the importance of patriotism among the younger generations.
