According to police on Monday, three alleged members of the outlawed terror organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) were taken into custody together with around five kilograms of gelatin stick explosives, a detonator, a remotely operated triggering system, a firearm, a magazine, and five live rounds.

According to police, the preliminary investigation shows that the three suspects had reportedly interacted with Satnam, also known as Satta Naushera, a handler who was supposedly connected to BKI and lived abroad. The accused allegedly planned to put an improvised explosive device (IED) in Chandigarh with the goal of causing panic, and investigators believe that they were following his instructions.

Following specific intelligence reports regarding the movements of alleged BKI agents in Chandigarh, the arrests were made on August 22, 2026. At Police Station 36, a case was filed under Sections 4(b) and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act. Lovepreet Singh, 19, of Sarhali village in Tarn Taran district; Jashanpreet Singh, alias Jashandeep, 21, of Deobath village in Tarn Taran; and Prabhpreet Singh, alias Prabh, 19, of Tarsikka village in Amritsar district are the accused.

The intended target, the source of the explosives, and the potential involvement of other members of the suspected network are all being investigated by investigators. Additionally, police are attempting to ascertain whether the accused individuals were a part of a bigger scheme to carry out a terror-related attack in Chandigarh and to ascertain the depth of their claimed connections with the foreign-based handler.

Police now have the explosive material, triggering parts, and guns. Further investigation is ongoing, according to Chandigarh Police, who further underlined that any attempt to disrupt the city’s peace and public order will be met with severe consequences.
