Hindi Month Celebrations at IIT Kharagpur: Renowned Poets Mesmerize Audience; Auditorium Echoes with Laughter

Kharagpur: A grand Kavi Sammelan (poetic symposium) was organized on Thursday at the Netaji Auditorium of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur to mark the commencement of the Hindi Month celebrations. The event was jointly organized by the Official Language Department of IIT Kharagpur and NARAKAS Kharagpur.

The audience displayed great enthusiasm during this poetic evening as renowned poets presented their works covering humor, satire, and contemporary themes. Poets such as Dr. Shiv Om Amber, Dr. Utkarsh Agnihotri (Farrukhabad), Dr. Anu Sapan (Bhopal), Dr. Balwant Singh (Lucknow), and Dr. Popular Meeruthi entertained the gathering with their unique poetic styles.

The auditorium resonated with laughter and thunderous applause as the poets offered witty observations on contemporary society, everyday life, and human emotions through humor and satire.

The program began at 9:00 AM with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Institute Director Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Dean Prof. Kamal Lochan Panigrahi, Head of the Official Language Department Prof. Ashok Mishra, Assistant Director Prof. Prabhat Kumar Gupta, Prof. S.K. Varshney, Prof. Uday Shankar, Prof. Sanjeev Srivastava, Registrar Achintya Mandal, and Official Language Secretary Dr. Rajiv Kumar Rawat, alongside Dr. Prem Shankar Tripathi and Dr. Shiv Om Amber, IIT PRO Pratik Dhama, Sukunya Sharma.

A large number of people participated in the essay competition held across various categories, with students and participants showing keen interest.

At 10:30 AM, following the formal inauguration of Hindi Month, Dr. Prem Shankar Tripathi and Dr. Shiv Om Amber addressed the gathering. They spoke about the significance of celebrating Hindi Month, the relevance of Hindi in contemporary society, and the importance of Teachers’ Day. During the Kavi Sammelan (poetic symposium), the poets presented a variety of works that deeply resonated with the audience.

Dr. Shiv Om Ambar: Presented thought-provoking and powerful poems that blended humor, emotion, and social commentary.
Dr. Utkarsh Agnihotri: Entertained the audience with amusing and contemporary compositions, eliciting laughter through his sharp observations.
Dr. Anu Sapan: Recited engaging poems based on everyday experiences, emotions, and contemporary social issues.
Dr. Balwant Singh: Captivated the audience by delivering humorous and satirical poems with great verve.
Dr. Popular Meeruti: Earned thunderous applause with his signature humorous style and witty commentary on current issues.
Using quick wit, satire, and humor, the poets highlighted social realities while keeping the atmosphere lively and entertaining.
The audience responded to many of the performances with hearty laughter, applause, and enthusiastic appreciation.

The successful organization of this Kavi Sammelan created a fantastic atmosphere for the ‘Hindi Month’ celebrations at IIT Kharagpur, offering a shared platform for literature, humor, and meaningful social commentary.
