Prajwal Revanna, a former MP convicted of rape, used dozens of pornographic videos on his phone while inside.

Numerous pornographic videos were found on the cell phone and other equipment that were taken from the imprisoned former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, according to forensic examination. Revanna, a rape convict, was discovered using a cell phone inside his prison cell during a Crime Branch investigation last month.

Revanna, the nephew of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy and the grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, was found guilty of rape and is currently serving a life sentence. He is being held at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

On August 11, Crime Branch officers conducted a surprise raid and discovered Revanna using a cell phone. A notebook, a pen drive, and a charger were also taken by the authorities from Prajwal’s high-security barrack.

Numerous pornographic videos on the phone and web series on the pen drive were discovered after the seized phone and pen drive were sent for forensic examination. The case has brought special treatment for “VIP” inmates at Bengaluru’s primary prison back into the public eye. Revanna was found guilty last year of rape and disseminating footage of the 48-year-old woman’s sexual attack.

The woman, who was employed as a domestic helper at the Revanna family’s home in the Hassan district of Holenarasipura, said that Prajwal Revanna had frequently sexually assaulted her since 2021. He had filmed the performance and threatened to make the footage public if she notified anyone.

Authorities had suspended a jail officer and ordered an investigation after the phone was found in Revanna’s cell. Electronic communication devices, SIM cards, and personal cell phones are all prohibited in jails. Only public call offices (PCOs), approved video-calling technologies, and closely watched institutional landlines are used for permitted contact.
