CID Arrests Abhishek Banerjee’s Aide Sumit Roy in Salboni Land Case

Kolkata: The West Bengal CID on Thursday arrested Sumit Roy, personal assistant to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, shortly after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the Salboni land case. Roy was taken into custody from near Abhishek Banerjee’s Kalighat residence following a joint operation by the CID and Special Task Force (STF). He is expected to be produced before a Midnapore court, where investigators are likely to seek custody.The case concerns allegations of illegal sale of government land using allegedly forged documents. The CID has also been examining the financial transactions linked to the alleged land deal.Roy had earlier appeared before investigators multiple times. The Calcutta High Court had rejected his anticipatory bail plea in August. The Supreme Court’s dismissal of his plea on Thursday cleared the way for his arrest. Roy’s lawyers have maintained that he cooperated with the investigation.
