India Energy Week 2027 to Make Kolkata Debut, Bringing Global Energy Dialogue to Eastern India

Kolkata, September 28, 2026: Kolkata is set to host the fifth edition of India Energy Week (IEW) 2027 for the first time, with the global energy platform scheduled from *January 28–31, 2027, at the New Town Convention Centre. The event will be held under the theme *“Unlocking Innovation. Securing Energy. Shaping Tomorrow.”**

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas *Hardeep Singh Puri, along with West Bengal Minister *Tapas Roy and state Finance Minister Dr Swapan Dasgupta, formally announced Kolkata as the host city during the curtain-raiser ceremony held in the city.

Addressing the gathering, Tapas Roy said hosting IEW 2027 would highlight the growing importance of Eastern and Northeastern India in the country’s energy landscape and provide an opportunity to showcase investment prospects in West Bengal and the wider eastern region.

Dr Swapan Dasgupta highlighted the emerging energy potential of Eastern India, pointing to developments in West Bengal, including exploration activities at Ashoknagar, alongside the energy resources and industries of neighbouring Assam, Jharkhand and Odisha.

Hardeep Singh Puri said he hoped IEW 2027 would mark an important phase in India’s energy journey, particularly in areas such as sustainability, biofuels and green hydrogen.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who addressed a press conference following the curtain raiser, thanked the Union Petroleum Ministry for bringing the event to West Bengal. He highlighted developments including domestic gas supply, expansion at Haldia Refinery and the Ujjwala scheme, while also referring to commercial crude oil and natural gas exploration and production at the Ashoknagar oilfield in North 24 Parganas. He said a successful IEW 2027 could help attract investment, expand existing projects and generate employment opportunities in the state.

India Energy Week has grown significantly since its debut in Bengaluru in 2023. The fourth edition, held in Goa in 2026, attracted more than 75,000 energy professionals, 700 exhibiting companies, participants from over 120 countries and more than 6,500 conference delegates.

IEW 2027 is expected to bring together 75,000+ energy professionals and 700+ international exhibitors, along with policymakers, investors, technology innovators and senior executives from across the global energy sector.

The conference and exhibition will cover a wide range of areas, including oil and gas, LNG, refining and petrochemicals, hydrogen, biofuels, digitalisation and artificial intelligence, as well as emerging energy technologies.

The Kolkata edition will also place greater focus on the role of Eastern India in India’s evolving energy ecosystem and create opportunities for regional businesses and institutions to connect with international partners.

The previous edition in Goa featured participation from senior representatives of several countries and international organisations, underlining the increasingly global nature of discussions around energy security, affordability, investment, technology and the transition towards cleaner energy systems.

IEW 2027 is being held under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and is being organised by the *Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI), with *Informa Markets serving as Conference Organiser.

With Kolkata hosting the event for the first time, IEW 2027 is expected to place Eastern India at the centre of discussions on the future of energy, investment, innovation and sustainability.
