Flydubai pilot Captain Smit Machchhar suffered a serious head injury during an incident aboard a passenger aircraft and was forced to undergo emergency surgery in Saudi Arabia, according to a report. Machchhar sustained a depressed skull fracture and required immediate medical attention after the flight was diverted to Tabuk.
Machchhar was reportedly injured during an altercation in the cockpit of Flydubai flight FZ1073. Despite suffering significant trauma and blood loss, the pilot continued to take steps to protect the aircraft and its passengers during the emergency. According to the report, Machchhar suffered a fracture to his skull during the confrontation. The injury was serious enough to require emergency surgery after the aircraft landed in Saudi Arabia. Doctors reportedly carried out a procedure to repair the damaged portion of his skull.
The pilot was subsequently airlifted to Abu Dhabi for further treatment. His condition was later described as improving, with reports indicating that he was responding to medical care.
The incident unfolded after an individual reportedly attempted to gain control of the aircraft. The situation led to a struggle inside the cockpit, leaving Machchhar seriously injured. Despite his condition, the pilot managed to unlock the cockpit door, enabling passengers and crew members to intervene.
Passengers and members of the crew then helped overpower the co-pilot, who was involved in the confrontation. The aircraft was eventually brought under control and made an emergency landing in Tabuk. Machchhar’s actions during the incident have drawn attention because he continued to perform critical duties despite sustaining a severe head injury. The pilot’s ability to respond during the emergency was crucial in allowing others inside the aircraft to enter the cockpit and assist in restoring control of the situation.
The flight’s emergency landing in Tabuk allowed Machchhar and others requiring medical attention to receive treatment. The injured pilot was later transferred to Abu Dhabi, where he continued his recovery. While investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to establish the sequence of events, Machchhar’s condition remains a key focus following the emergency.
The pilot’s recovery is being closely watched after the severe injury and subsequent surgery. His reported improvement has provided some relief following an incident that placed both the crew and passengers of the Flydubai flight in a dangerous situation.
