Delhi High Court Seeks Salman Khan’s Response Over Plea Against Kala Hiran Proceedings

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 7th October 2026

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to actor Salman Khan seeking his response to a plea filed by the producers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, who have requested a stay on proceedings initiated by the actor against the film.

The application has been filed in connection with a legal dispute involving the upcoming film and Khan’s objections to its content and alleged use of matters associated with his public identity. The producers have argued that a similar matter is already pending before the court and that continuing with the present proceedings could result in parallel litigation.

The dispute reportedly concerns Khan’s personality and publicity rights and the film’s reference to the actor’s widely known 1998 blackbuck poaching case. Khan has objected to the manner in which his name and aspects of the case are allegedly connected with the film.

The High Court had earlier taken note of Khan’s concerns and directed online platforms to remove promotional material, including the film’s teaser and other related content. The latest application by the producers seeks to halt further proceedings while the legal issues are considered. The court’s notice does not represent a decision on the merits of either side’s claims. Khan has been asked to respond to the producers’ plea, after which the court will consider the arguments and material presented by both parties.

The case has brought renewed attention to the legal limits surrounding the use of a celebrity’s name, image and public persona in films and other entertainment projects. Personality rights allow public figures to seek protection against certain unauthorised commercial uses of aspects of their identity, although the scope and application of such rights can depend on the circumstances of each case.

The proceedings involving Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy are expected to determine whether the producers can proceed with the disputed material and how the competing legal claims should be addressed. The matter remains pending before the Delhi High Court.
