Apple has begun rolling out iOS 27.2 update for compatible iPhone models, introducing several new features, expanded artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and fixes for more than 160 security vulnerabilities. Released on October 26, the update brings improvements to Siri AI, Messages, Photos, Apple Music, FaceTime and other applications.
One of the major additions is expanded Siri AI language support, which now supports French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. The feature can recall previous conversations and draw information from sources such as photos attached to Messages, calendar event attendees, voicemails and Safari browsing history. Users can also manage which applications Siri and system suggestions can access.
The Messages application has gained contextual suggestions that allow users to perform actions directly from conversations. These include creating calendar events or reminders based on discussions. Meanwhile, the Photos application introduces improved Shared Albums, allowing users to edit captions and comments, prevent duplicate uploads and receive reminders before albums expire.
Apple has also introduced support for Google’s SynthID watermarking technology in Photos and Image Playground to help identify images generated or modified using artificial intelligence tools.
The Apple Music application receives a redesigned black-and-white icon, while the Podcasts app now separates new episodes from programmes users have already started listening to. The Apple TV app also introduces individual profiles to provide personalised recommendations for different household members.
The update brings additional improvements to FaceTime, including support for sign-language interpreters and live captioners. Group FaceTime calls can also use the Dual Capture feature, which records video using the front and rear cameras simultaneously on compatible devices.
Apple’s iPhone Duo, the company’s foldable smartphone, receives Apple Pencil USB-C support and an Edge Light feature designed to illuminate users’ faces during video calls. Users can install iOS 27.2 by navigating to Settings, selecting General and opening Software Update. Apple recommends updating compatible devices to receive the latest features and security fixes.
