Aruna Irani says Rekha Got Her Fired From A Movie

Aruna Irani was a well-known actor in the 1970s, and although she frequently appeared in supporting roles, she hardly ever had the opportunity to play the lead. The Beta actor noted that, even as a second lead, she was frequently changed in movies during a recent conversation. She remembered a time when her very good buddy Rekha succeeded in getting her booted from a movie.

The Caravan actor explained to Smita Prakash on her ANI podcast that she had to portray a spirit in the movie because she was cast as the protagonist’s dead first wife, while Rekha was cast as the second wife who was still alive.

She recalled that when she later questioned the filmmakers about her decision to leave, they were the ones who revealed Rekha’s dishonesty to her.

Aruna recalls confronting Rekha about it during a different shoot, and the Umrao Jaan actor boldly admitted what she had done. Aruna remembered what Rekha had said when she was asked why. Rekha apologized but stated that she did it for her job when Aruna said that she should have phoned her.

Rekha had reportedly said, “Sorry, yaar par, ab kya karu? Mera career tha na. (Pardon me, but how do I? It concerned my career.) I did not want you to carry it out.” However, Aruna and Rekha reconciled after she talked warmly about her “buddy” in this podcast.
