As Rishi Sunak Becomes The British PM, Indian Americans Describe It As A Big Day

Chandra Arya, a Canadian lawmaker, congratulates Mr. Sunak on becoming the first Hindu prime minister of the United Kingdom.
On October 25, 2022, Indian Americans celebrated the swearing-in of Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and noted that it was a significant day for the international Indian community.
“The diaspora received this as a significant Diwali gift. We are happy to have Rishi join the government leaders list for the Indiaspora, and we wish him well as he assumes his new position”. M.R. Rangaswami, an entrepreneur headquartered in Silicon Valley and the creator of Indiaspora, remarked.
The Special Diwali
This year’s Diwali is particularly remarkable because the UK has its first Prime Minister of Indian descent. Gita Gopinath, the first deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, said “Congratulations.” The head of the Mississippi State Board of Mental Health, Sampat Shivangi, praised Sunak for writing history. “What a glorious occasion for an Indian to see Rishi at the position of greatest authority… British colonial administrators in India were in charge barely 75 years ago,” he claimed.
According to Dr. Shivangi, he has known Rishi and his family for a number of years because their ancestors are from the Karnataka town of Athani. “My lecturer in my medical school was Sudha Murthy’s (Sunak’s mother-in-law),” he remembered.
Al Mason, a real estate investor from New York, praised Mr. Sunak for being the first Hindu, South Asian, and youthful British prime minister to hold the position.
In a statement, Canadian lawmaker Chandra Arya congratulated Mr. Sunak for becoming the first Hindu prime minister of the UK. May his success inspire a younger generation of Canadians to engage more passionately in public service, he wished.
