Ask your CMs, leaders to resign: BJP hits back at Cong over EVM allegations

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 30th November 2024

The BJP retaliated at the Congress on Saturday for questioning the electoral process, including the integrity of the EVMs, saying its chief ministers and other elected members, such as Rahul Gandhi, should quit first and proclaim that they will contest only when the poll papers are returned. Such a stance will demonstrate their belief in the concerns they are raising, according to BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, who added that their claims would otherwise be meaningless.

He also suggested that the Congress take the issue to the courts, noting that the Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld the transparency of the election process and the integrity of election Voting Machines.Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress chief ministers, should resign because they were elected using the same electoral procedure that the opposition party is disputing, Bhatia stated.

It was ironic that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge questioned EVMs on the same day that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took oath as Lok Sabha MP, he remarked. The Congress would soon be relegated to the pages of history, he said.

Speaking about the attacks targeting Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, the BJP spokesperson cited the Indian government’s stance and expressed confidence that India’s strong voice cannot be ignored. Bhatia argued that as the world’s largest democracy, it is India’s responsibility to speak out when minorities are harassed anyplace.

He also accused Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav of acting as a shield for rioters, and said that party members, including MPs, are inciting violence rather than demonstrating a commitment to peacekeeping.

He accused the SP of routinely causing disturbances when it dominated the state, and that the opposition party has lost faith in the police. The BJP reacted after Yadav accused it of organizing unrest in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where protesters protesting a court-ordered mosque survey clashed with police last Sunday.
