Assam’s Third Phase Lok Sabha Polls Witness 10.12% Initial Voter Turnout

The early voter turnout data for the third and final phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Assam, conducted on May 7, indicates a relatively low participation rate, with the state recording a total of 10.12 per cent voting. The inclement weather conditions further contributed to the subdued voter turnout during the initial hours of polling.
Voting is currently underway across four parliamentary constituencies in Assam, namely Dhubri, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Guwahati, as citizens exercise their democratic right to elect their representatives.
Among these constituencies, Dhubri registered the highest initial voter turnout at 10.75 per cent, followed closely by Guwahati, which recorded a turnout of 10.38 per cent. Meanwhile, Kokrajhar and Barpeta constituencies reported voter turnout rates of 9.77 per cent and 9.26 per cent, respectively, during the early hours of polling.
The relatively low voter participation rates in the initial phase of polling may be attributed to various factors, including unfavorable weather conditions and possibly other local factors impacting voter mobilization efforts. However, it is imperative to note that the voter turnout figures are preliminary and subject to change as polling progresses throughout the day.
Despite the challenges posed by the weather and other logistical considerations, election authorities and stakeholders continue to make concerted efforts to encourage voter participation and ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
As the day progresses, it is expected that voter turnout may increase as voters overcome any initial obstacles or constraints and exercise their franchise.
