On 29 November, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee interrupted her speech midway through a government function because she became agitated. According to those in the know, the Chief Minister was supposed to hand out warm clothing during the occasion but the material had not yet arrived at the location. The district magistrate (DM) was then publicly criticized by an enraged Mamata Banerjee. Nusrat Jahan, a member of the Trinamool Congress, and Dr. Hari Krishna Dwivedi, the chief secretary of Bengal, attended the event in the North 24 Parganas district.
The distribution of over 15,000 warm garments was planned for the occasion.
The block development officer was called to the location by the chief minister. On 28 November, the Bengal Chief Minister started a three-day trip to the Sundarbans. The governing Trinamool had earlier on 29 November posted pictures of a pilgrimage.
As two new districts created from South and North 24 Parganas, Sundarbans and Basirhat are also anticipated to be officially announced by her.
