Atishi claims ‘internal tussle’ among BJP MLAs over portfolio allocation

Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi stated on Friday that “internal conflicts” are occurring among BJP MLAs regarding portfolio distribution and charged the party with making excuses to evade meeting its election commitments. While addressing a press conference, Atishi alleged that BJP leaders were involved in a “struggle” over ministerial positions to “misuse” public resources. She also claimed that the BJP was not planning to fulfill the promises the party made in its election manifesto.

“We have learned from our sources that the BJP is planning to blame the AAP for its failure to fulfil promises. They will claim that the Delhi government has no money due to the previous AAP administration,” Atishi said.

Emphasizing the financial performance of the AAP government, she noted that Delhi’s budget rose from Rs 31,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 77,000 crore in 2024-25 throughout its administration.

“In the last 10 years, Delhi’s budget has grown 2.5 folds. The Arvind Kejriwal-led government even repaid the debt inherited from the previous Congress administration,” the senior AAP leader added.

Atishi urged the BJP to fulfill all its commitments immediately, especially the pledge of giving Rs 2,500 monthly to women. The BJP, which achieved a significant win in the recently held 70-member Delhi Assembly elections, has not yet named its chief minister and cabinet. The party secured 48 seats, whereas AAP fell to 22, representing a notable drop from its previous 2020 count of 62 seats.
