Axis Bank to Raise ₹5,000 Crore Through Series-9 NCDs to Strengthen Balance Sheet

News Mania Desk / 22th November 2025

Axis Bank has announced plans to mobilise up to ₹5,000 crore through its latest issuance of Series-9 non-convertible debentures (NCDs) as part of efforts to reinforce its balance sheet and meet regulatory requirements. The private sector lender will open with a base issue size of ₹2,000 crore and retain the flexibility to raise an additional ₹3,000 crore through a green-shoe option, depending on investor demand.

The proposed NCDs will be long-term, senior, unsecured, and taxable instruments, issued on a private placement basis. The bank intends to list them, enabling broader investor participation.

The fundraising initiative comes at a time when Axis Bank is managing higher provisioning costs. In the second quarter of FY26, the bank reported a 26% year-on-year decline in net profit, primarily due to a substantial one-time provision of over ₹1,200 crore.

By tapping the debt market, Axis Bank aims to enhance its capital buffers, improve liquidity strength, and ensure compliance with regulatory norms related to asset quality and risk coverage.

The fresh capital infusion will also support future credit growth and provide stability amid fluctuating market conditions. The move underscores the bank’s strategy to proactively address balance-sheet pressures while maintaining long-term financial resilience.
