Ayush Mhatre Ruled Out of IPL 2026 With Hamstring Injury, CSK Face Setback

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 21st April 2026

Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 after suffering a hamstring injury, dealing a major blow to Chennai Super Kings during a crucial phase of the tournament.

The young batter picked up the injury during Chennai’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. Coming in as an impact substitute, Mhatre made an immediate impression with an aggressive knock, scoring 30 runs off just 12 deliveries. However, his promising innings was cut short when he appeared to strain his hamstring while attempting a quick second run. He was seen in visible discomfort and had to leave the field after receiving medical attention.

Subsequent medical evaluations confirmed that the injury would require an extended recovery period, ruling him out for the rest of the season. Reports indicate that rehabilitation could take several weeks, effectively ending his IPL campaign this year.

Mhatre’s absence is a significant setback for Chennai Super Kings, especially given his impressive performances in the ongoing season. The 18-year-old had emerged as a key contributor in the batting lineup, providing brisk starts and maintaining a high strike rate. His ability to shift momentum in the powerplay had added depth and flexibility to the team’s strategy.

Team management now faces the challenge of reorganising the batting order to fill the gap left by the youngster. With the tournament entering a decisive stage, the loss of an in-form player could impact Chennai’s prospects as they push for consistency.
