The highly anticipated comedy-drama “Bad Newz,” featuring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk, premiered in theaters on July 19. On its opening day, the film reportedly garnered around ₹8.50 crore net in India, according to Sacnilk.com. The release of the song ‘Tauba Tauba’ created substantial buzz, contributing to the film’s strong debut.

The film’s performance varied across different cities. Chennai led with the highest occupancy rate at 54.50%, while Jaipur followed with 31.25%. Other major cities such as Bengaluru, Bhopal, NCR, and Mumbai recorded occupancies of 28%, 25.75%, 26%, and 20.75%, respectively. Despite the promising start, “Bad Newz” has received mixed reviews, leading to predictions of a potential decline in box office collections, with an estimated ₹0.7 crore expected on its second day.

Directed by Anand Tiwari, “Bad Newz” is a fresh take on traditional rom-com themes, delving into the humorous and chaotic concept of heteropaternal superfecundation—a term describing a situation involving two fathers and one mother. The film also features Neha Dhupia, with special cameos by Ananya Panday and Neha Sharma, adding to its appeal.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh praised the movie for its entertaining and well-crafted screenplay. In his review, Adarsh highlighted that while the plot might seem unconventional, Tiwari’s intelligent and engaging writing ensures that the film remains captivating throughout. He commended Vicky Kaushal for his impressive performance, noting his ability to handle both emotional and comedic aspects of his role with finesse. According to Adarsh, Kaushal’s portrayal is likely to significantly enhance his fan following.

Triptii Dimri’s performance was also positively received. Adarsh appreciated her contribution, noting her ability to handle both light-hearted and emotional scenes effectively, while adding a touch of glamour to the film. Ammy Virk’s comedic timing was another point of praise, with Adarsh describing him as charming and effective in his role. However, he mentioned that Neha Dhupia and Sheeba Chaddha, despite their talent, were underutilized, suggesting that their presence could have further enriched the film if given more screen time.

The film’s initial success and the varied responses from critics and audiences suggest that while “Bad Newz” may face fluctuations in its box office performance, it has nonetheless made an impactful debut. As the weekend progresses, it will be interesting to observe how the film’s box office numbers evolve in response to audience feedback and reviews.
