Bibek Debroy passes away

Leading economist and chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM), Bibek Debroy, died Friday morning. He was 69 years old.After Bibek Debroy’s death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects.

“Dr. Bibek Debroy Ji was a towering scholar, well-versed in diverse domains like economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and more. Through his works, he left an indelible mark on India’s intellectual landscape. Beyond his contributions to public policy, he enjoyed working on our ancient texts, making them accessible to the youth,” PM Narendra Modi wrote on X.

He also shared a picture of himself with Bibek Debroy.

Bibek Debroy received his education at Trinity College in Cambridge, Delhi School of Economics, Presidency College in Kolkata, and Ramakrishna Mission School in Narendrapur. He has previously served as the director of a Ministry of Finance/UNDP project on legal reforms in addition to working at Presidency College in Kolkata, the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in Pune, and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in Delhi.

Renowned Indian economist, writer, and researcher Bibek Debroy is well-known for his contributions to Sanskrit literature and economic policy. India’s economic policies have been greatly influenced by him. Debroy is an expert in a variety of areas, such as public finance, infrastructure, and macroeconomics.

He has written extensively on subjects like governance, economic reforms, and Indian railways. He was also praised for his efforts in bringing old Indian knowledge to contemporary readers through the translation of famous Sanskrit works, such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Mahabharata. Up till June 5, 2019, he was also a member of NITI Aayog. Additionally, he has worked as a contributing and consulting editor for a number of newspapers.
