Despite a disappointing debate performance that left many Democrats concerned, US President Joe Biden declared on Friday that he remains determined to defeat his Republican rival, Donald Trump, in the upcoming November presidential election. Biden showed no intention of stepping down from the race, emphasizing his commitment to the cause.

Speaking at a rally in North Carolina shortly after the debate, Biden addressed the concerns about his age and performance. “I know I’m not a young man, to state the obvious. I don’t walk as easy as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to, but I know what I do know. I know how to tell the truth,” Biden stated. He further added, “I know right or wrong, I know how to do this job, I know how to get things done. When you get knocked down, you get back up.”

Biden’s remarks were met with enthusiastic chants of “four more years” and “USA, USA, USA” from the rally attendees, showing strong support from his base. Biden stressed the importance of his continued leadership, saying, “I would not be running again if I didn’t believe with all my heart and soul that I could do this job. The stakes are too high.”

During the debate on Thursday night, Biden’s verbal stumbles and sometimes wandering responses raised concerns among voters about his fitness for another four-year term. This performance led to speculation within his own party about whether they should consider replacing him as the Democratic candidate for the November 5 election. In contrast, Trump’s debate approach included a series of falsehoods, but the post-debate focus largely remained on Biden, especially among Democrats.

Despite the criticism, Biden’s campaign reported a surge in fundraising, collecting $14 million on Thursday and Friday, with their best single hour of fundraising occurring immediately after the debate. Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign raised $8 million on the night of the debate.

Biden, who is already the oldest president in American history, faced minimal opposition during the Democratic nominating process and has secured enough support to be the party’s nominee. Similarly, Trump overcame his intra-party challengers early in the year, setting the stage for a fierce general election battle.

As the election approaches, Biden’s supporters continue to rally behind him, undeterred by his debate performance. His message of resilience and determination resonates with many who see him as a leader capable of navigating the nation’s challenges. The campaign’s fundraising success post-debate indicates a solid backing from his base, suggesting that despite the setbacks, Biden remains a formidable contender in the race against Trump.

The upcoming election promises to be highly contested, with both candidates preparing for a long and arduous campaign. As Biden works to reassure his supporters and address the concerns raised by his debate performance, his commitment to winning the election and serving another term remains steadfast.
