Bigg Boss 19 Faces ₹2 Crore Lawsuit Over Unauthorized Use of Songs
News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 26th September 2025

The popular reality show Bigg Boss 19, hosted by Salman Khan, has found itself embroiled in a legal dispute following the unauthorized use of two songs in its 11th episode, which aired on September 3. Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) India has issued a legal notice to the show’s producers, Endemol Shine India, alleging that the tracks “Chikni Chameli” from Agneepath and “Dhat Tere Ki” from Gori Tere Pyaar Mein were used without obtaining the necessary public performance licenses.
According to PPL, both songs are licensed to Sony Music Entertainment India, and their public performance rights are exclusively managed by PPL. The organization claims that Endemol Shine India failed to secure a license under Section 30 of the Copyright Act, 1957, constituting a “willful infringement.” Consequently, PPL has demanded ₹2 crore in damages, in addition to the applicable license fees, and has issued a cease-and-desist order to prevent further unauthorized use of its sound recordings.
As of now, neither Endemol Shine India nor the streaming platform JioHotstar has publicly responded to the allegations. The outcome of this legal matter could have significant implications for the show’s future episodes and its relationship with music licensing entities.
