BJP Alleges Kejriwal Allotted ‘Luxury Bungalow’ in Chandigarh, AAP Denies Claim

A fresh political controversy erupted on Thursday after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of being allotted a “seven-star luxury bungalow” in Chandigarh by the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab. The BJP shared what it claimed was an aerial image of the alleged residence located on a two-acre plot in Chandigarh’s upscale Sector 2, dubbing it “Sheeshmahal 2.0” — a reference to the earlier row over Kejriwal’s Delhi residence at 6 Flag Staff Road.
Responding sharply, AAP dismissed the allegations as “baseless and politically motivated.” The party said the property in question was merely the official camp office of the Punjab Chief Minister and not an accommodation allotted to Kejriwal. AAP leaders challenged the BJP to produce an allotment letter or any official document supporting their charge.
The BJP’s accusation has reignited debates about government expenditure and transparency, particularly in the context of public officials’ use of state resources. Party leaders claimed the alleged allotment reflected hypocrisy within AAP, which has long campaigned against VIP culture.
Meanwhile, AAP maintained that the BJP was attempting to distract voters and deflect attention from its own governance failures by recycling old narratives. The party said such claims were part of a larger political campaign to discredit Kejriwal and the Punjab government.
The “Sheeshmahal” controversy first surfaced in 2023 when the BJP attacked Kejriwal over the renovation costs of his Delhi residence. The latest charge, linking him to a purported luxury property in Chandigarh, has once again intensified tensions between the BJP and AAP ahead of crucial state elections. No official document confirming the alleged allotment has yet been made public.
