BJP leader urges Kerala govt to enforce new law against illegal migration

Senior BJP leader V Muraleedharan urged the Kerala government on Saturday to rigorously implement the recently enacted law designed to reduce the influx of illegal migrants into the state.

Speaking to reporters here, he stated that many illegal immigrants from Bangladesh are coming to Kerala pretending to be guest workers, and emphasized that the law must be enforced in the state without exception.

The Lok Sabha approved the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, on Thursday, with Home Minister Amit Shah emphasizing that individuals arriving in India for business, education, and investment are welcomed, while those who threaten security will encounter strict measures.

Muraleedharan additionally asserted that these unauthorized immigrants, masquerading as guest workers, are contributing to the proliferation of narcotics in the state. The former union minister criticized the Congress-led UDF on this issue, claiming that the opposition front’s stance is “disappointing.”

For instance, the BJP leader claimed that after some Bangladeshi nationals were detained in Aluva, Kochi, a friend of Opposition Leader V D Satheesan arrived to support them. He mentioned that the vice president of the Congress’s mandalam was subsequently apprehended in the case.

“The new bill is a crucial step towards eradicating drug abuse and terrorism.”
