BJP Urges Election Commission Action Against Rahul Gandhi Over PM Remark in Bihar

A political storm has erupted in Bihar after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “will dance to win votes.” The remark, made during a campaign rally in Muzaffarpur ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, has drawn sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has now sought intervention from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
During his speech, Gandhi accused Modi of resorting to theatrics to woo voters. “If 200 people ask him to dance, he will do it — all to win votes,” Gandhi said, taking aim at what he described as the BJP’s obsession with image-building over real governance. The comments quickly went viral, sparking intense debate across political circles and social media.
Condemning the remarks, BJP leaders submitted a formal complaint to the Election Commission, alleging that Gandhi’s words were not only disrespectful to the Prime Minister but also to the Indian electorate. The party accused him of violating the Model Code of Conduct, arguing that such “derogatory personal attacks” demeaned the democratic process.
“The Congress leader’s statement is an insult to voters who have repeatedly placed their trust in Prime Minister Modi,” a BJP spokesperson said, urging the ECI to take strict action.
Meanwhile, Congress has stood by Gandhi, defending his comments as a metaphorical criticism of the BJP’s “dramatized politics.” Party sources said Gandhi was highlighting the disconnect between the government’s promises and ground realities.
The controversy has intensified the campaign ahead of Bihar’s two-phase polls on November 6 and 11, with counting scheduled for November 14. As both major parties trade barbs, analysts say the episode reflects the increasingly personal tone of political discourse in the high-stakes state election.
