Five PG Medical Seats Are Granted By NMC To GMC Ongole

The Government Medical College in Ongole, also known as the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), recently received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for five Post Graduate medical seats, which is good news for those seeking postgraduate medical education in Andhra Pradesh.

For these PG medical seats for the academic year 2022–2023, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the Apex Medical Commission has issued a Letter of Permission (LoP) to the institution under Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences.

One respiratory medicine seat, two biochemistry seats, and two forensic medicine seats are among the PG medical seats for which the college has been granted approval by the NMC.

The total number of PG medical seats in the nation was disclosed to the Lok Sabha, according to Medical Dialogues’ report from the previous year. According to the information provided by the Minister, Andhra Pradesh has 2371 post-graduate medical seats across all disciplines. 1065 of these seats are assigned to government medical colleges, while 1306 are assigned to private institutions.

The State Director of Medical Education presented a report to the State last year asking for an increase in PG medical seats in the medical schools in Guntur, Nellore, Ongole, Kakinada, and Srikakulam in order to address the critical lack of specialized doctors in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the most recent media reports, NMC has approved the addition of five more PG medical seats at the Government Medical College in Ongole. After the medical college got an email on September 15 alerting it of the MARB judgment, Dr. PV Sudhakar Babu, the college’s principal, confirmed the information.
