C-DOT, the premier Telecom Research and Development (R&D) Center under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur (IIT-J) to sign an agreement aimed at advancing “Automated Service Management in 5G and Beyond Networks Using AI.”

The agreement, facilitated under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) of the DoT, signifies a significant step towards fostering collaboration between domestic entities for the development and commercialization of telecommunication products and solutions. The overarching objective is to enable affordable broadband and mobile services, particularly in rural and remote areas.

The primary focus of the collaboration is to develop AI frameworks tailored for automated network management, fault detection, and diagnostic techniques, leveraging the vast data generated within modern networks like 5G. By harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, the initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of network operations while ensuring seamless service delivery.

A key component of the collaboration involves establishing a real-time 5G and Beyond testbed, designed in compliance with O-RAN standards. This testbed will serve as a platform for demonstrating the efficacy of the developed automated network management and slicing techniques, showcasing their applicability across various domains such as smart metering and remotely operated vehicles.

The agreement signing ceremony witnessed the participation of Dr. Pankaj Kumar Dalela, Director of C-DOT, and Dr. Sai Kiran, MPR, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Jodhpur. Dr. Sai Kiran expressed enthusiasm about the research grant received from the DoT, highlighting its potential to drive advanced R&D initiatives focused on revolutionizing network management and enhancing Quality of Service (QoS) in 5G and 6G telecom networks.

He emphasized the pivotal role of cutting-edge AI technologies in spearheading the development of automated network management solutions capable of delivering low-latency and high-reliability performance. These solutions are instrumental in facilitating the growth of emerging 5G and 6G application verticals, including remotely operated vehicles and smart cities.

Both C-DOT and IIT Jodhpur reiterated their commitment to the successful completion of the project, emphasizing its potential to unlock new use cases in critical areas such as transportation systems and smart cities. Furthermore, they highlighted the significance of India’s contributions towards shaping future 6G telecom standards, positioning the country at the forefront of technological innovation and development.

In essence, the collaboration between C-DOT and IIT Jodhpur represents a concerted effort to leverage AI-driven solutions for optimizing network management and service delivery in next-generation telecom networks. By harnessing the collective expertise of academia and industry, the initiative aims to accelerate the deployment of advanced telecommunication technologies and pave the way for transformative innovations in the digital landscape.
