Cargo Ship Bound for India Attacked in Strait of Hormuz, Crew Rescued After Fire Breaks Out

A cargo vessel travelling to India was attacked while passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, triggering a fire on board and prompting a rescue operation for its crew. The Thai-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was sailing towards Kandla Port in Gujarat when it came under attack while transiting the narrow shipping route connecting the Persian Gulf to international waters. The vessel had departed from Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates before the incident occurred.

According to officials from the Royal Thai Navy, the ship was struck by projectiles during the attack, causing significant damage and igniting a fire on board. Visuals shared after the incident showed thick black smoke billowing from the vessel as flames spread across parts of the ship. Crew members were forced to abandon the vessel as the fire intensified. The Omani Navy carried out the rescue operation, managing to save 20 crew members from the stricken ship.
