CCTV video shows moments before stampede

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 28th October 2024

CCTV footage shows customers scurrying to board an unreserved train just moments before, causing full chaos on the platform, days after a stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus railway station left ten people injured.

Large people attempted to board the 22-coach unreserved Bandra-Gorakhpur Antyodaya Express, which arrived from the railway yard at approximately 2.44 am on Sunday, causing the stampede. During the holiday season, such crowds are typical.

Numerous passengers were seen losing their footing while attempting to board the train in the security film, which was allegedly taken by a CCTV camera on the north end of platform no. 1 at Bandra Terminus. Additionally, it depicts a swarm of people attempting to board the train before it completely stops, with some attempting to do so through an emergency escape window. The rush is not depicted in the images.

For the forthcoming Diwali and Chhath celebrations, the Western Railway is running around 130 festive special trains to a variety of locations, particularly Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. To ease platform congestion and guarantee efficient passenger flow, platform ticket sales have been limited at the Mumbai Division’s Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra Terminus, Borivali, Vasai Road, Vapi, Valsad, Udhna, and Surat stations.

In order to prevent last-minute traffic and guarantee a seamless boarding experience, Northern Railways advised passengers to come at least one hour before to the planned departure of their train.
