CDS Chauhan Held Talks in Yerevan to Boost Tech-Driven Defence Cooperation with Armenia

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan engaged Armenian leadership and senior defence officials in Yerevan to strengthen India–Armenia defence ties with a focus on technology-driven cooperation. During the visit, discussions centred on defence modernisation, capacity building, and collaboration in emerging areas such as unmanned systems, electronic warfare, cyber security, and advanced training.
General Chauhan also reviewed avenues for expanding defence industry partnerships, including co-development, co-production, and maintenance support, aligned with India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The talks underscored shared interests in regional security and the role of innovation in enhancing military preparedness.
The visit reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening strategic defence engagement with Armenia and exploring mutually beneficial cooperation across platforms, technologies, and professional military education.
Meghalaya emerged as a major beneficiary, receiving a record ₹9,631 crore in tax devolution, the highest ever for the state. The enhanced allocation is expected to strengthen infrastructure, social welfare programmes, and overall economic growth. The budget underscores the Centre’s focus on inclusive development and sustained investment in the Northeast.
