Celebrated 80th Foundation Day of ICAR-CIFRI at Barrackpore.

ICAR – Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI) celebrated their 80th foundation day with due pomp at Barrackpore.
Since its establishment in 1947, the organization has been carrying out research, training and extension activities for the development of inland open water fisheries.

The initiative of the institute has implemented several breakthrough technologies and programs like Incentive Breeding, Integrated Fish Farming, Wetland Management Guidelines, Hilsa Conservation, Enclosure Culture and Mega River Ranching.
Currently, India is the second largest fish producing country in the world, with a global contribution of about 8 percent, of which the inland fisheries sector accounts for more than 75 percent.

The event started with the cutting of the cake.
Pradeep Dey, director of the organization in his welcome address, highlighted the success of the last few decades and said that the use of modern technology and the role of the organization in conserving biodiversity is very important.
He also mentioned the organization’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Prabir Kumar Ghosh, present as the chief guest, congratulated the officers and workers of the organization and said that ICAR-CIFRI has played an important role in the development of the country’s fisheries sector.
