Celebrities have responded to Kangana Ranaut’s recent altercation, where the actor-politician was allegedly slapped and verbally abused by a female CISF constable during a security check at Chandigarh airport. This incident occurred just two days after Kangana won the Lok Sabha elections from Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh. Kangana questioned the silence of Bollywood on the matter, prompting several well-known figures to speak out.
Shabana Azmi took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her views, stating, “I have no love lost for Kangana Ranaut. But I can’t find myself joining this chorus of celebrating ‘the slap’. If security personnel start taking law into their hands, none of us can be safe.”
Anupam Kher, in a recent conversation with paparazzi, conveyed his disappointment. He said, “Mujhe bara afsos hua. Ek mahila k saath ek mahila k dwaara jo apne position ka fayeda uthakar is tarah ki harqat ki, bilkul ghalat hai. Iski kanooni karwaayi honi chahiye. Unka koi bhi rosh hai, main yeh nahi keh raha hoon k inka rosh nhi ho sakta jisne aesa kiya, but yeh apne audhe ka ya position ka fayeda uthakar nahi karna chahiye. Bohut hi democratic ways hai of saying that what you have said in the past which has affected. But to do something like this is very sad and unfortunate. Not only because now Kangana in an MP or actress, Kangana is a woman. I think any kind of violence towards anybody, forget about women, isn’t right. Kal ho koi bhi kisi ko bhi kisi bhi baat pe is tarah ki harkat kar sakta hai aur bahana bana sakta hai. Ghalat baat hai.”
Shekhar Suman and his son Adhyayan Suman also addressed the incident at an event. Shekhar remarked, “Woh ghalat hai, woh toh bohut ghalat hai. Bohut hi durbhagyepurn hai. Aesa kisi k saath nahi hona chahiye.” Adhyayan added, “No one has the right to do this. This is illegal what she has done. She should get punished for this. I understand that she might have some anger or protest in her mind but the way it was expressed was very wrong. It could also have been said in a decent manner…You can’t raise your hand on anyone like this.”
Raveena Tandon used her Twitter handle to comment on the broader issue of violence and hooliganism in society. She highlighted the unfair targeting of women achievers for their fame, tweeting, “In a world where public scrutiny is relentless, it is essential to remember that women achievers are human too. Disparaging them solely for their fame is unfair and harmful. This increasing violence against women and children world over needs to be addressed urgently.”
Now, in addition, Hrithik Roshan, and Alia Bhatt too took the stand for the actress.
The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the treatment of women in public life, with many emphasizing the need for respectful and legal ways to address grievances. The reactions from various celebrities underscore the importance of maintaining decorum and upholding the law, especially when dealing with personal and professional disputes.
