Change is rapid and happening dynamically : Union Minister on SHANTI Bill

Speaking at a Rajya Sabha debate on the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill, 2025 is Union Minister Jitendra Singh. Union Minister Jitendra Singh elaborated on the background and significance of the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill, 2025. He explained that a similar law was opposed in 2010 and that this bill was introduced now because the situation, technology, and times have changed.
“The change is rapid and it is happening dynamically,” Singh said while responding to the Opposition’s queries regarding the legislation.
“Technology has changed. We are now into small modular reactors. There will now be reactors that will give power in dense areas. The risk of catastrophe has now changed. This Bill is coming in because the scenario has changed,” he added.
In the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated that the administration is prepared to review the SHANTI Bill and accept comments and concerns. He stated in the Rajya Sabha that the SHANTI Bill’s safety SOPs are identical to those found in the 1962 legislation.
