Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, the National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, issued a fatwa on Sunday, prohibiting Muslims from celebrating the New Year. The decree, issued by the Chashme Darfta Bareilly, states that such festivities are contrary to Islamic beliefs and practices.

Speaking on the fatwa, Maulana Razvi added, “The young men and women who celebrate New Year have been informed that it is neither a source of pride nor a cause for celebration. The New Year marks the start of the Christian calendar year, often known as the English Year, and Muslims are absolutely barred from celebrating any non-religious rites.

The fatwa explicitly calls on Muslim youngsters to refrain from partaking in New Year celebrations, since such behaviors are considered contradictory to Islamic values. It underlines that Muslims should avoid festivities based on non-Islamic customs and behaviors.

The declaration emphasizes the Jamaat’s stance on retaining religious identity while preventing the development of behaviors considered foreign to Islamic ideals.
