CIA Wants To Prevent The Extinction Of The Woolly Mammoth
The United States’ first line of defense, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), has recently shown a renewed interest in natural history. Despite the fact that the CIA is not normally recognized for dealing with extinct animals, a report claimed that Colossal Biosciences, a biotechnology company based in Dallas, Texas, that is attempting to save the woolly mammoth from extinction, has gotten financial help from the agency.
According to the sources, the company also has investors including Paris Hilton, Tony Robbins, Winklevoss Capital, and Peter Thiel.
In-Q-Tel, Colossal’s new investor, is reportedly registered with the agency as a nonprofit venture capital organization. Recently, the company has shown interest in DNA sequencing and biotechnology.
Between 5 million and 4,000 years ago, enormous, hairy elephant-like beasts known as mammoths roamed the earth. Around the time the Great Pyramids of Egypt were being constructed, the Ice Age glaciers began to retreat, and the mammoths went extinct.
The sources also claimed that since scientists were able to sequence the mammoth genome using DNA extracted from mummified bones, they have consistently captured the interest of people who want to bring back extinct animals.
Researchers hope to bring back extinct species like mammoths and Tasmanian tigers using genome editing techniques like CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats).
In order to prevent the release of greenhouse gases locked in the Arctic permafrost, sources claim that rescuing the mammoth would aid in slowing the melting of the permafrost. Additionally, it would protect living elephants from extinction.
