Cityflo Expands App-Based Commute Options by Bringing 200 Buses to Kolkata

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 25th March 2026

As app-based bus operator Cityflo formally enters the city with an initial fleet of about 200 buses, Kolkata’s urban mobility scene is undergoing a dramatic change. In order to give working professionals a more organized and dependable daily commute choice, the company will concentrate on high-demand routes that connect residential neighborhoods to significant commercial hubs like Sector V and New Town.

With the support of notable investors such as Lightbox Ventures, Anupam Mittal, Alteria Capital, and India Quotient, Cityflo has been progressively growing throughout India. The company is currently one of the biggest app-based bus operators in the nation with a fleet of over 1,000 vehicles, three times larger than it was a year ago, thanks to its debut into Kolkata and ongoing expansion in Delhi-NCR.

Currently, Cityflo works in major metropolitan areas including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi-NCR, and now Kolkata, which together account for a sizable portion of India’s white-collar population and have some of the worst traffic.

In his remarks about the expansion, Cityflo CEO and co-founder Jerin Venad emphasized the increasing demand for reliable shared mobility options in metropolitan India. A large percentage of the millions of people who commute every day still use private vehicles, which presents a chance for structured, app-based alternatives.

Over 5 million people are served by the company each year, and daily ridership has increased by 50% in the last year, suggesting a significant shift in commuter preferences. Pre-arranged, reliable transportation choices are becoming more popular than both private automobiles and erratic public transportation.

Additionally, a number of smaller operators in the market have had service interruptions and shutdowns, leaving a void in dependable commuter options, which coincides with Cityflo’s debut. In an otherwise fragmented sector, the corporation is emphasizing stability and dependability as its primary differentiators.

This initiative is anticipated to give daily commuters in Kolkata an option to current services like Uber Shuttle, perhaps relieving the strain on congested transportation systems while providing a more comfortable travel experience.

Scaling operations across cities with different traffic patterns and legal systems is still difficult, though. The effectiveness of Cityflo in Kolkata will be continuously monitored as the need for effective urban mobility solutions keeps growing.
