Coalesce a solo Kathak recital of Guru Vaswati Misra

Coalesce took inspiration from the works of the mystic poetry of Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī .The  general theme of Rumi’s thought, like that of other mystic and Sufi poets of Persian literature, is that of tawhid — union with the Beloved  Rumi believed passionately in the use of music, poetry and dance as a path for reaching God. She believed, music helped devotees to focus their whole being on the divine and to do this so intensely that the soul was both destroyed and resurrected.

Vaswati Misra weaves this poetry through out her performance in a manner that brings forth, both the inherent lyrical beauty of the poetry as well as its deeper and underlying spiritual thoughts. In conclusion, she uses a verse from the poetry of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. This coalescence of the works of the two poets with dance and music has been conceived and choreographed by Vaswati Misra herself.

In the tradition of Kathak performance it is the accepted norm that audiences show their sense of appreciation whenever the dancer presents a tukda or tihai or paran in a manner that shows the dancers mastery of the form. It is a well established tradition and often the dancer takes energy from the applause to go forth and do even better. For the evening of 23rd December 2022 awaits the master performance of Guru Vaswati Misra and team.
