Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday evening, representing the party as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. This decision comes after a series of meetings with leaders from the INDIA bloc, although the Trinamool Congress, a member of the alliance, has chosen not to attend.

Recently, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) urged Rahul Gandhi to accept the role of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Although Gandhi has not yet made a decision, Sonia Gandhi remains the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal emphasized Rahul Gandhi’s suitability for leading the opposition in Parliament, stating that his leadership is crucial for a strong and vigilant opposition dedicated to protecting the Constitution.

Following extensive discussions on the party’s electoral performance and future strategies, the CWC proposed forming dedicated committees to assess the party’s performance across all states, including those it governs. This approach aims to strengthen the party’s position and ensure effective governance.

The swearing-in ceremony marks the beginning of Modi’s third consecutive term as Prime Minister, leading a coalition government after securing a majority in two previous tenures. This historic event underscores Modi’s continued influence in Indian politics and sets the stage for his government’s future endeavors.
