On Saturday, the Congress party declared the initiation of a countrywide ‘Save Constitution’ campaign starting from April 25 and lasting until May 30, according to a statement from the party.
The party will also combat the BJP’s misinformation campaign regarding the National Herald matter, as senior leaders will conduct press conferences in various cities nationwide. This decision was reached during a meeting of the Congress general secretaries, state in-charges, and heads of different frontal organizations, led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in the capital.
After the meeting, party general secretary-communications Jairam Ramesh informed reporters that, as a follow-up to the resolution passed during the Ahmedabad AICC session, the ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ rallies will take place at the PCC level from April 25 to April 30.
This will be succeeded by comparable rallies at the district level from May 3 through May 10. The Samvidhan Bachao rallies will take place from May 11 to May 17 across 4,500 assembly segments throughout the country. A door-to-door campaign will take place from May 20 to May 30 to protect the constitution.
Jairam Ramesh charged the BJP administration with exploiting the Enforcement Directorate to target Congress leaders. Citing the National Herald edition, he stated that no legal matter was at hand, as it was merely a situation of political revenge plotted by two people with a criminal mindset.
He declared that to combat the BJP’s misinformation regarding National Herald, Congress leaders will conduct press conferences in various cities nationwide from April 21 to April 24. “This is not a legal issue, but a political issue smacking of political vendetta, politics of persecution, intimidation and fear mongering”, he observed
Citing the resolution adopted during the Ahmedabad session, he stated that the party will concentrate on social, economic, and political justice. He mentioned that today’s meeting reinforced the party’s call for a nationwide caste census. Furthermore, it will address the matter of reservations for SC, ST, and OBC students in private educational institutions. The party also reiterated the call to eliminate the 50 percent limit on the reservations.
