Members of the INDIA group protested the Special Intensive Revision in Bihar and claims of “voter fraud” during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by marching from the Parliament to the Election Commission on Monday, causing chaos.
Delhi Police put up barricades and stopped the MPs as the opposition leaders marched toward the EC office. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Sanjay Raut were among the opposition leaders who were arrested on their way to the Election Commission office. Congress MPs agreed to meet with 30 MPs, according to EC officials, but they managed to evade the polling body. In a letter, the Election Commission asked Congressman Jairam Ramesh to meet with thirty opposition leaders to discuss the matter.
According to the Congress, if the party officials had been permitted to march to the Nirvachan Sadan, they would have met with the Election Commission. The demonstration was attended by a number of INDIA bloc heavyweights, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP SCP president Sharad Pawar, Mahua Moitra of the TMC, Congress’ KC Venugopal, and Naseer Hussain.
Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, led the protest march from the Parliament’s Makar Dwar. In order to get the EC to address their concerns regarding the alleged “voter theft,” the MPs started their march.
