CSIR-IIP Marks 65th Foundation Day with Emphasis on Energy Transition and Scientific Collaboration

The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR)-Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), located in Dehradun, celebrated its 65th Foundation Day on April 27th, marking a significant milestone in its rich history of pioneering research, innovative technologies, and industry collaborations. Established on April 14th, 1960, CSIR-IIP has emerged as a premier R&D organization in India.

The distinguished event was graced by Padma Bhushan Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Hon’ble Member of NITI Aayog and Mentor of CSIR-IIP, who presided as the Chief Guest. Dr. Saraswat delivered a lecture on “Energy Transition in India,” emphasizing the importance of cleaner and carbon-free technologies that will drive the world in the near future. He urged scientists to undertake challenging research in e-Methanol and Green Hydrogen, emphasizing the need for Indian technologies to remain competitive globally by focusing on carbon neutrality.

Dr. Saraswat commended the team at CSIR-IIP for their contributions and achievements, acknowledging the collective efforts of scientists, technicians, students, and staff members in enhancing the institute’s stature. He interacted with the scientific fraternity of CSIR-IIP, offering insights and suggestions for advancing research and development initiatives in alignment with national priorities.

During the celebration, Dr. Harender Singh Bisht, Director of CSIR-IIP, presented the institute’s roadmap for the period 2024 to 2030, aimed at achieving the vision of “Vikasit Bharat” (Developed India). Dr. Saraswat provided valuable feedback on the roadmap, proposing measures to enhance its efficacy and relevance for the nation’s development agenda.

Highlighting the institute’s achievements over the past 64 years, Director Bisht underscored significant milestones such as the Numaligarh Wax Plant, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, US Grade Gasoline, Medical Oxygen Units, Sweeting Catalyst, PNG Burner, and Improved Gur Bhatti. These accomplishments underscore CSIR-IIP’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement across diverse sectors.

As part of the celebration, students and teachers from Oak Grove School, Mussoorie, participated in the Jigyasa 2.0 program, which aims to foster a scientific temperament among school children. The students had the opportunity to visit various laboratories at CSIR-IIP, interact with scientists, and gain insights into cutting-edge research endeavors, nurturing their interest in science and inspiring them to pursue careers in scientific disciplines.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Anjum Sharma, Senior Controller of Administration at CSIR-IIP, expressing gratitude to all individuals who contributed to the success of the program. The celebration not only commemorated the institute’s journey but also reinforced its commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and contributing to the nation’s socio-economic development.
